Anonymous said: Is it appropriate for white protestors to engage in "hands up, don't shoot" chants, make a "don't shoot" gesture as a pose for a photograph, raise their fists, etc.? It's clearly trivializing and appropriative when done on social media, but what about while attending protests that are hosted by a black community-- does participating still send the wrong message, or is it a useful gesture of solidarity? Thanks for your time.
Before I would have said no. But at this time I will say yes. White protestors are getting shot and tear gassed for peacefully protesting. This has transcended police brutality against Black Men, and challenging police brutality in general, regardless of the race or gender.
You need a multicultural united front to make changes. If we can’t get the solidarity of the people who represent the majority, we are just gonna continue to be slaughtered.

Yes, I know. I was there. Some brought their own, many were not prepared at all and did drastic things because of dire needs.
i love that mcdonald’s response was like “nah nothin’ happened to our shop”

“The Greek word for return is nostos. Algos means suffering. So nostalgia is the suffering caused by an unappeased yearning to return.”
Kundera, Milan. Ignorance (via blurrymelancholy)
And in many cases, the suffering caused to others by a majority’s desire to return to a place or time that never existed.
